How to become a successful fair trade university, city or company? On May 21st 2015, a conference with this theme took place at Fontys Venlo.
Representatives of the Dutch Stichting Max Havelaar and of the German company “Transfair” held a lecture on a shared Fair Trade topic. In work groups best practices were presented. The day was concluded with a delicious Fair Trade and Organic Indonesian hot meal!
On this day Fontys received the Fairtrade University plaque on behalf of Max Havelaar. Fontys International Campus in Venlo is now carrying the prestigious title of Fairtrade University, as the 2nd University of Applied Technology in the Netherlands.
Eshuis praised Fontys for anchoring of the Fairtrade concept into the curriculum. In his acceptance speech Nederlof said that "We have a social responsibility towards young people in educating professionals who are firmly rooted in society."
